for Lisa Silva:
Lisa grew up in San Francisco and started dancing at the age
of five. This began her dancing adventures. She danced her way
through high school, at The School of the Arts, and then earned
a BFA in dance at the California Institute of the Arts, in Southern
California.
In college, she had the fortunate experience of joining 'Zadonu',
traditional music and dance company from Ghana, West Africa.
Lisa also took a semester to do a field study in Ghana, where
she documented and participated in music and dance traditions.
She went on to teach Ghanaian dance at UCLA, Loyola Marymount,
and LBSU. She also taught workshops to adults and children of
all ages through the Music Center, education division, as well
as, the Community Arts Partnership Program.
It was also in college that Lisa began her Pilates practice.
She spent many hours 'playing' with the Pilates equipment, invigorated
by the great feeling of this mind-body work. Right after college
she began her studies to earn a certification from 'The Performing
Arts Physical Therapy Pilates Studio' She has been teaching
in Southern California since 2002.
Lisa also earned a certification from 'The National Academy
of Sports Medicine', Anusara teacher training, level 1, and
Shiatsu massage.
