Bio
for Wendi August:
Wendi August, P.T.A, STOTT Certified Pilates Instructor.
Wendi is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant who recently
relocated to Nevada County from Santa Cruz where she worked
at a Sports Medicine and Outpatient Orthopedic Center. While
there, she was instrumental in establishing community based
mat Pilates classes for post-rehab patients, staff, and the
general public.
Wendi has been teaching a variety of fitness classes for over
15 years including step aerobics, water aerobics, and balance/proprioception
classes for seniors. She was certified through Stott Pilates
as a mat instructor in 2004 and was Stott trained in the reformer
in 2006.
Wendi received her B.A. degree in Exercise Physiology in 1995
and worked seasonally for the U.S. Forest Service as a wild
land firefighter during the summers. As a firefighter, she traveled
over most of the western U.S. and developed a love of the outdoors
and an appreciation for hard physical work. She went on to explore
several other jobs, which included working at a cross-country
and mountain bike resort, a natural foods store, and worked
as a community outreach coordinator for the Dept. of Health
and Human Services before returning to school to become a Physical
Therapist Assistant in 2000.
In addition to teaching group classes and private sessions
at the Pilates Place, Wendi also works at Seivert Physical Therapy
with post-operative orthopedic patients, as well as postural
dysfunctions, and balance/proprioception disorders. She is also
taking a year-long manual therapy training program taught by
John Seivert, P.T.
Wendi enjoys anything outdoors including biking, running and
swimming. She completed her first half-ironman in 2006 and is
currently training for the Death Ride, a 129 mile road ride
through the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountain range.
